LOS ANGELES -- Two of the silver screen's most frightening horror film icons are due to duke it out.

***"Freddy Vs. Jason"*** is to pit the bloody serial killers Freddy Krueger of ***"Nightmare on Elm Street"*** and Janson Vorhees of ***"Friday the 13th"***, the ***Variety*** trade magazine reported Monday.

New Line Cinema has given the job of directing to Ronny Yu, who made ***"Bride of Chucky"***.

The movie will mark the eighth for Freddy and 11th for Jason.
